Hi friend, my name is Arlan Medicine from the Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians aka. Red Lake Nation in North Central Minnesota and Rainy River First Nation in Emo, Ontario. Love going to powwows. But watching this is making me think that all my years practicing in elementary school playing Chinese Jump Rope that I might be kinda awesome at these dances. Lol. It’s a lot of the same moves.

@@ArlanMedicineI didn’t mean any disrespect. My best friend is Gansett. I hope my comment wasn’t offensive to you in any way. Your dances reminded me of my childhood. Not sure if you’ve ever seen Chinese Jump Rope. It’s basically an elastic band that’s tied to form a loop maybe 6-10 foot long loop. It goes around the legs of 2 players and it starts off around the ankles, then knees, then hips, and maybe waist. The player in the middle has to do a series of jumps around the elastic or steps on the elastic. And we raise the height of where the elastic goes with every successful round of jumps. I am happy to see people continuing their traditions and showing others ❤

As a grass dancer myself, I have to say both John & Julius are my powwow family and known both for many years. They don’t see each other as better than each other but both are original style. The only difference is that John is older than Julius.

That was the first time I heard that song from midnight. If I would’ve known it sooner I would have stopped like the Karate Kid in his crane kick stance… lol jk! But yeah they were jamming songs.
